JAN 662: Digger (2026) Review – Warner Bros. And Paramount To Become Skydance (10/07/26)

October 7, 2026 Movie Reviews, Podcast 1:37:03

This week on The Jock and Nerd Podcast, the massive Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger is finally moving forward under the Skydance banner. We break down the new leadership, what happens to Warner Bros. and DC Studios, and what the combined entertainment giant could look like. We also discuss a live-action Spider-Man: The Clone Saga series reportedly in development, Jennifer Lawrence joining Zach Cregger’s The Flood, and Avengers: Endgame reclaiming the title of highest-grossing movie of all time from Avatar. Plus, production on The Batman Part II is paused as Matt Reeves steps away to deal with a family matter.

Then we dive into a spoiler-filled review of Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger (2026), starring Tom Cruise in one of the strangest roles of his career. We discuss Cruise’s wild performance, Iñárritu’s absurdist satire, Emmanuel Lubezki’s VistaVision cinematography, the movie’s environmental and political themes, and the huge mid-movie twist that completely changes what you thought you were watching. Is Digger brilliant, pretentious, a noble failure—or all of the above?
